Posted by: Amroth   in Monthly Roundups

December was a good month for those of us with a passion for mods, even though not everything that happened got posted about - something we hope to remedy in the coming weeks. We got a new hosted mod, Wrath of the Norsemen, and two new staff members joined the MR team: WildWeasel & General_Naga.

Lightspire

Posted by: General_Naga   in Crysis, Fantastical Mods, Modifications, Total Conversions

“10,000 years after a forgotten cataclysm the world’s landscape has changed. The balance of power, as ever shifting as grains of sand, has drawn new battle-lines and formed new alliances. Great civilizations have risen up and fallen away, but in spite of war, famine and disease life finds a way to endure, adapting to each new whim of fate. Some bloodlines, cast into exile, have been forgotten. Others stand proud in the cold light of day, unaware of what lurks in the shadows. Yet to many the cataclysm is myth. Unbeknownst to them, only because of it did this harsh new world emerge.”

‘Lightspire’ is a RPG modification for ‘Crysis’. This is a new and exciting mod is still in the early stages of development and so little is known about the storyline or how the mod will be played but they have released a trailer and some in-game screenshots which are shown below.

«It is the time of Man. The story centers on the fertile lands of Pendor and the
struggles of the peoples, their leaders and their destiny. Several hundred years ago, a
single Kingdom was forged by sword and fire. A peace was maintained and prosperity came
to the kingdom and it flourished. Five generations of Pendorian Kings sat on the Silver
Throne in Sarleon and for nearly two hundred years they guided the destiny of their land
and it’s subjects.»

‘The Prophesy of Pendor’ modification for ‘Mount & Blade’ puts the player in the position of Hero (or Heroine) “who brings forth the lost glory of the Kingdom of Pendor.” You play and create the end of the extensive story that the developer, saxondragon, has provided for the mod. The story in its entirety can be read here.

The mod features a new map of Pendor where five factions fight for total hegemony, and gives the player his very own unique troop tree. Other features include:

  • Advanced troop types.
  • Enhanced troops.
  • Well thought out cultures, armies, and conflicts.
  • Expanded Armor and Weapons and Mounts (250+)
  • There are “Enchanted” weapon and armor: if you can find them.
  • Updated Companions modified for Pendor.
  • Period Music
  • Expanded new banners.
  • There are more foes to fight, and much more challenging that in “native”.

‘Warhammer: Total War’ is a mod for ‘Rome: Total War’ 1.5. It covers the Warhammer universe, based on the creations of Games Workshop. It has been out for a while, but deserves a place as the chief developer, Jubal Barca, is planning to have a new release out by Christmas.

Imperial Spearmen stand ready

Imperial Spearmen stand ready

Some features of the mod:

  • Plenty of new factions, including Altdorf, Middenheim, High Elves, Wood Elves and many more.
  • Entirely brand new units, new models, skins, and cannons!
  • Unique banners and symbols for all factions.

At the moment, the mod has no campaign, only custom battles. It will have a campaign in the future though, and for the moment, the custom battles are very enjoyable!

Are you looking for epic music for your mod? Or perhaps you just want something suitable to listen to while you are slaughtering countless enemies in your favourite game or modification? Either way you owe it to yourself to download the ‘Chronicles of Arcus: Legend of Antaphar’ soundtrack composed by Jones King. This is the second instalment in what is intended to be a trilogy musically exploring the fictional World of Arcus and its history. The tracks are powerful and emotive, some with a distinctly heroic quality, while others radiate a delightfully ominous atmosphere.

Click to Play!

Track 09 - Sons of Enphar

‘Chronicles of Arcus: Legend of Antaphar’ consists of ten tracks, and all save one are compressed as 320kbps MP3 files. The soundtrack is free to use for all modders who need music for their modifications, with the conditions that the artist is properly credited and that it is used for non-commercial purposes. It is, in his words, “dedicated to the modders and developers throughout the modding communities around the internet.”

Tracklist:

  • 1. Antaphar’s Prediction (Prologue)
  • 2. Halls of Ulcring
  • 3. The Dom-hai
  • 4. Antaphar
  • 5. Saerasus
  • 6. Saerasus (alternate version)
  • 7. The Silver Tower
  • 8. Ana’amar Ritual
  • 9. Sons of Enphar
  • 10. Golcan Pass (Sons of Enphar 2nd part)

Download the album here, and grab the first in the series, Arcus Lux, while you’re at it! Also stay tuned for the final instalment in the ‘Chronicles of Arcus’ trilogy: ‘The Pilgrim Prophecy’! You can read more about the World of Arcus here.

The mod, which is in development for ‘Medieval II: Total War’, is set during the so-called Dark Ages, with a start date of 620 AD, on a map featuring the islands of Great Britain and Ireland. The map will have 299 regions (the hardcoded limit), and be populated with as diverse factions as Northumbria, Laighean, Gwynedd, and the emerging Norsemen.
